Spinning Hi-Fi: Early Hi Fidelity Classical Recordings, Vol. 2
March 26 @ 5:15 pm - 7:00 pm

Vox Records. One of the earliest New York City-based budget classical labels, Vox was founded in 1945 by George Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, a Hungarian Jewish immigrant. Vox often licensed pressings of European classical recordings, and introduced many American listeners to Austrian and German based performers like conductor Jascha Horenstein and pianist Alfred Brendel, whose readings of Beethoven are renowned to this day. This spinning will likely involve a mix of orchestral and chamber music with an emphasis on the romantic era, with a possibility of some Mahler or Schönberg (conducted by Horenstein) as well. As always, free and open to the public!
