SUMMARY:Frèdèric Acquaviva and Kombat Diva perform LIVE at the Institute Library
DESCRIPTION:Frèdèric Acquaviva and Kombat Diva have been performing in collaboration for many years but it has been nearly a decade since New Haven’s seen them; the Institute Library is proud to host their return to town. This evening\, Kombat Diva will perform excerpts from Acquaviva’s The 120 Days of Musica\, and selections from her own Panic Room: The Singterviews.\nThe self-taught experimental composer Frédéric Acquaviva (born January 20\, 1967) splits his time between Paris\, Berlin\, and London. In 2020 he was awarded the SWR prestigious KARL SCZUKA PRIZE for his electronic opera ANTIPODES\, the third French composer to receive it after Pierre Henry and Luc Ferrari.\nAcquaviva has been prolific on the underground/experimental music scene\, working with major figures of the historical avant-garde including Isidore Isou\, Pierre Guyotat\, Henri Chopin\, Dorothy Iannone\, and mostly mezzo-soprano Loré Lixenberg. Creator of “chronopolyphonic” installations\, he works on the notion of “oxymoron” and in the intersection of instrumental or voice\, with computer editing since 1990\, sometimes including video-texts or live streams\, mixing a conceptual approach with physical body sounds. \nMezzo-soprano KombatDiva is a singer/soundartist working across opera\, sound art\, film\, radio\, installation and experimental comedy. She has performed and premiered major works from Cage to Walshe\, Acquaviva to Aperghis to Sciarrino\, collaborating with leading composers\, ensembles and institutions worldwide. Her work explodes operatic structure into participatory systems\, from singing blockchains and dating-app operas to political parties\, film-operas and extended-voice ritual. KombatDiva is the founder of The Voice Party\, winner of the Rose d’Or\, as well as Phonurgia Nova\, Prix Italia and John Cage Awards.\nThis hour-long performance will be a rare experience; those with an interest in extremely unsual aural experiences and interdisciplinary art will not want to miss this evening. Doors at 6:30; Performance at 7:00. Seating is limited. Please email Eva@Institutelibrary.org  if you have any questions. \n\nPURCHASE TICKETS

SUMMARY:SENSO DI VOCE: Megan Kyle and Esin Gunduz in performance
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 6:30 | Performance starts at 7:00\nSenso di Voce presents ‘…through itself…’\n\n…a new commissioned work inspired by the philosophical ideas of revolutionary Islamic mystic İbn ‘Arabî plus improvisations with a performance built around explorations of shimmering timbral resonances and other astonishing acoustical phenomena. \n\nMegan Kyle – oboe\, English horn\n\n\n\n\n\nEsin Gunduz – voice\, composition\, tremolo harmonica\, bass harmonica\, harmonium \n\n\n\n\nAbout Senso di Voce\nMegan Kyle (oboe\, English horn) & Esin Gunduz (voice\, composition\, tremolo harmonica\, bass harmonica\, harmonium). The duo focuses on the embodied experience of varying acoustical phenomena. Implementing the unique acoustic properties of their instruments and of the performance space\, they create otherworldly performances that reveal the interconnected timbral threads among new music and early music from diverse cultural traditions. This\, combined with improvisation and movement\, brings audiences into an immersive experience that transcends expectations. \nTheir performance features a brand new piece by Esin for the duo. Inspired by the writings of revolutionary Islamic thinker İbn ‘Arabî (1165-1240)\, ‘…through itself…’ is an exploration of his profound philosophical concepts\, through sound. The piece will be followed by improvisations that expand on this sonic world. \nSenso di Voce’s previous work includes multiple performances for Silo City\, a collection of repurposed grain elevators in Buffalo\, NY. They have created performances and sound installations in partnership with several art museums and art festivals in Western New York. Tierceron\, their album of improvisations with collaborator Henry Birdsey\, was released on Other Minds Records (San Francisco) in 2023. \nThis commission has been made possible by the Chamber Music America Classical Commissioning Program\, with generous funding provided by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nClick here to RSVP.\n\nVisit the Facebook page to learn more
