In 2011, the Institute Library began a period of revitalization and re-engagement with the greater New Haven area community. William C. Baker became the library’s first executive director and open hours increased to six days a week. Major repairs and renovations to the library’s building soon followed, together with the launching of new programs, events, and community partnerships. Within that year, membership had doubled and the Institute Library won a 2011 Arts Award for the Arts Council of Greater New Haven for its revitalization efforts. In June 2014, the library hired a new Executive Director, Natalie Elicker.
